Medieval football was less of a sport and more of a violent, lawless brawl. Entire towns would clash to move a ball between landmarks, often resulting in significant property damage and injuries.

Unlike modern games with strict regulations, these matches had almost no rules and lasted for hours or even days. Neighbors would battle to drag an inflated pig bladder across long distances through muddy streets and fields. Because the chaotic scuffles were so disruptive and dangerous, several kings actually tried to ban the game entirely. It remains the wild, unruly ancestor of the organized sports we enjoy today.
