The Hidden Emerald Mountains of Bosnia
Hidden within a rugged national park, the Zelengora mountains are known as the green mountains because their slopes are unusually lush. Unlike many jagged peaks, these summits are covered in vibrant carpets of grass and wildflowers.
While many mountain ranges are defined by rocky, desolate faces, Zelengora is famous for its stunning meadows and hidden glacial lakes. These lakes are often called mountain eyes because of their clear, reflective blue water. The range is part of one of the last remaining primeval forests in Europe, providing a rare sanctuary for wild wolves and bears. It remains a peaceful, largely untouched wilderness that feels worlds away from modern life.
