Only 2.4 miles of water separate Big Diomede and Little Diomede, yet they are separated by 21 hours of time. Crossing this tiny gap takes you across the International Date Line.

These rocky outcrops sit right in the Bering Strait between Alaska and Siberia. Because of the International Date Line, the Russian island is actually nearly a full day ahead of its American neighbor. You could effectively look across the water and see into the next day.
