The Philosopher Who Defined Consciousness

The Philosopher Who Defined Consciousness

David Chalmers coined the Hard Problem of consciousness, arguing that explaining how physical matter creates subjective experience is far more mysterious than simply mapping brain functions.

While scientists can map neurons, they still cannot explain why these electrical pulses feel like anything at all. Chalmers challenged the idea that science can solve everything through physical observation alone. He suggests that we might need an entirely new way of understanding the universe to bridge the gap between brain tissue and the feeling of being alive. This radical inquiry has made him one of the most provocative thinkers in modern philosophy.
