The Trap Of Infinite Thinking

Philosophers argue that explaining an action through a conscious mental process leads to an infinite loop. If every smart move requires a prior thought, then that thought itself must have been preceded by another.

This logic puzzle is known as Ryle's regress. It suggests that if you need a plan to think, you would need a plan to plan that plan, and so on forever. This highlights the danger of assuming our brains are constantly running complex internal programs for everything we do. Sometimes, we simply act without needing a mental manual to guide us.
