The Experimental City Built By Bells

In the Arizona desert, an ongoing architectural project sustains itself entirely through the art of casting molten bronze bells. It is a real-world attempt to prove humans can live in high-density cities without destroying the environment.

Architect Paolo Soleri began this project in 1970 to showcase his concept of arcology, which blends architecture and ecology into a single design. Instead of relying on traditional funding, the community generates income by handcrafting unique bronze windbells. Thousands of students have traveled here to build the structures by hand using innovative earth-casting techniques. It remains a living laboratory for sustainable urban planning that challenges our traditional ideas of city life.
