The Brief Era of the Toddler Bed

Toddler beds are designed for a surprisingly short window of time. Most children outgrow these transition beds by age seven, marking the final step before they graduate to a standard mattress.

These small beds act as a bridge between the confines of a crib and the independence of a full-sized bed. Kids usually move into them once they learn how to climb out of their cribs, often around age two. While they are useful for building confidence, they are essentially a temporary stopgap in a child's early development. It is fascinating how such a specific piece of furniture is obsolete for most people before they even finish first grade.
