The Hidden Highlands of Sarawak

The Hidden Highlands of Sarawak

Nestled deep in the mountains of Borneo lies a remote plateau home to the Kelabit people. Despite being accessible only by small aircraft or difficult jungle trails, this isolated region hosts a vibrant community.

The Kelabit Highlands are famously difficult to reach, requiring a journey through dense, rugged rainforests. Because of this extreme isolation, the local population has preserved unique agricultural traditions and cultural practices for generations. Bario, the main village in the area, is particularly well-known for producing some of the finest rice in Malaysia. It is a true hidden gem that remains untouched by the frantic pace of modern city life.
