The German Ice Cream That Isn't Pasta
Invented in Germany, Spaghettieis looks exactly like a plate of pasta but is entirely made of dessert. Vanilla ice cream is pressed through a ricer to mimic noodles, then topped with fruit sauce to look like savory tomato gravy.
This clever optical illusion was created in the 1960s by an Italian ice cream maker living in Germany. He used a potato ricer to squeeze the ice cream into strands, creating a dish that fooled children and adults alike. To complete the disguise, chefs sprinkle white chocolate or coconut shavings over the top to perfectly imitate grated parmesan cheese. You can even find chocolate-sauce versions that mimic a rich, savory carbonara.
