The Milky Way's Great Annihilator
Near the center of our galaxy lies a cosmic powerhouse nicknamed the Great Annihilator. It constantly destroys matter by smashing it into antimatter, releasing a violent stream of intense X-rays.
This mysterious object is a microquasar formed by a black hole greedily consuming a nearby companion star. As it strips gas from its partner, the immense friction heats the material until it emits high-energy radiation. This process creates jets of particles that travel across space with incredible force. Scientists study this site to better understand how black holes shape the environment of our galaxy.
