Vantablack is so dark that it absorbs 99.96 percent of light. When you look at an object coated in it, your eyes cannot detect any depth or texture, making the surface appear like a bottomless hole in reality.

This material is made of billions of microscopic carbon nanotubes that stand vertically on a surface. Instead of reflecting light, these tubes trap photons, bouncing them around until they are converted into heat. Because no light bounces back to your eyes, the human brain struggles to interpret the shape of whatever it covers. It is so effective that even complex, three-dimensional objects can look like flat, two-dimensional silhouettes.
