India Is Not A Single Ethnicity

Despite the name, Indian is not an ethnic identity but a modern social construct. It encompasses thousands of distinct groups with vast differences in language, culture, and history that defy simple classification.

Because the region has been a crossroads for diverse civilizations for millennia, Indian identity includes hundreds of languages and distinct ethnic backgrounds. Before the 1947 partition, the term even applied to people from modern-day Pakistan and Bangladesh. Today, this massive demographic mosaic functions more as a shared nationality than a uniform heritage. It is truly one of the most complex human melting pots in existence.
