Spain’s Hidden Population Giant

While many assume Spain's most populated islands are near the Mediterranean, the most crowded spot is actually off the African coast. Tenerife holds more people than any other Spanish island.

This volcanic island in the Canary archipelago packs nearly one million residents into a relatively small space. It is so densely settled that it houses over forty percent of the entire island group's population. Despite being closer to the Sahara than to Madrid, it remains a central pillar of Spanish demographics. The island serves as the primary hub for the entire Macaronesia region.
