Tumors That Grow Fully Formed Teeth
An odontoma is a benign growth that behaves like a misplaced tooth factory. Instead of typical cancerous cells, it creates disorganized clumps of perfectly normal enamel, dentin, and pulp inside the gums.
These curious growths are dental hamartomas, meaning they are made of normal tissues that simply grew in the wrong arrangement. While the idea of a tumor sounds alarming, these structures are harmless and stop developing once they reach maturity. Sometimes they appear as tiny, individual tooth-like shapes while other times they form a single solid mass. It is a strange quirk of human biology where the body accidentally builds dental structures in the wrong location.
