The Composer Who Broke The Musical Scale

Julian Carrillo shattered traditional music by discovering that the spaces between piano keys contain infinite hidden notes. He called this discovery The Thirteenth Sound.

Western music typically relies on twelve notes per octave, but Carrillo realized these were just a small fraction of what is possible. By dividing a single whole tone into sixteen smaller intervals, he created an entirely new sonic landscape. This microtonal system allowed for melodies far more complex than those heard in standard compositions. His experimental pianos, modified to play these tiny increments, opened up a world of harmony that most ears have never experienced.
