Alexander Graham Bell Invented Wireless Light Communication

Decades before fiber optics, Alexander Graham Bell invented a device that sent human speech over beams of sunlight. He considered this light-based invention his greatest achievement, even surpassing the telephone.

In 1880, Bell successfully transmitted sound wirelessly using mirrors and the sun. His device worked by vibrating a thin mirror with his voice, which modulated a reflected beam of light to a receiver. While the telephone relied on fragile copper wires, Bell believed light was the future of communication. Though it was impractical for the era, this brilliant experiment served as the foundational ancestor to our modern fiber optic networks.
