The Sculpture Held Together By Tension
This sixty-foot tower stands upright without a single rigid connection between its steel tubes. Instead, the entire structure stays stable through a complex web of steel cables pulling in opposite directions.
Kenneth Snelson created this masterpiece by balancing tension and compression in a form called tensegrity. While the heavy metal rods appear to be stacked, they never actually touch each other at the joints. The cables maintain a constant pull that locks every piece into a rigid, self-supporting geometry. It is a stunning display of how invisible forces can hold massive objects in perfect harmony.
