The Hidden River Beneath Bristol

Much of the five-mile Malago river actually flows through dark, underground tunnels. It is completely invisible as it winds its way beneath the busy streets of South Bristol.

While most people see only urban pavement, a significant portion of this waterway is trapped in culverts hidden below the city. The river originates from springs on the scenic Dundry Hill before disappearing into this man-made maze. By forcing a natural river into concrete pipes, urban planners permanently altered the local landscape. It serves as a fascinating reminder of the wild nature buried under modern city life.
