Denver’s Famous Building Built Twice

The historic Ghost Building was physically dismantled piece by piece in the 1970s. After spending a decade in storage, workers rebuilt it at a new location around an entirely modern steel frame.

Originally constructed in 1889, this architectural landmark faced demolition until a clever plan saved its exterior. Architects painstakingly took the facade apart and later reassembled the original stone pieces onto a updated structural skeleton. While the building looks exactly like its Victorian predecessor, it is technically a high-tech replica of its former self. This rare preservation effort allowed a piece of history to move across town without losing its iconic charm.
