The Elephant Sized Sloth

Imagine a sloth the size of an elephant roaming the Americas. This ancient giant weighed over four tons and stretched twenty feet long, dwarfing every sloth living today.

Unlike the tiny, tree dwelling sloths we know, Eremotherium was a massive ground sloth that walked on the tips of its claws. It used its immense strength to pull down branches and even burrow into the earth. Living across the Americas until the late Pleistocene, this gentle giant occupied a niche similar to modern elephants. They are a powerful reminder of a time when megafauna ruled the landscape.
