The Impossible Bridge Between Fact and Value

You cannot logically derive what people should do simply by looking at the facts of how the world is. No matter how much data you gather, the leap to a moral judgment remains an unbridgeable logical gap.

This idea was discovered by David Hume, who noticed that thinkers often sneakily jump from describing reality to declaring what is right or wrong. However, mere facts about nature never dictate human values on their own. Even if you prove a behavior is natural, it does not mean it is virtuous or good. Recognizing this gap helps us avoid flawed arguments that assume nature dictates our morality.
