The German Roots of British Luxury

Although the Rolls-Royce Phantom is an icon of British prestige, the VII model was actually the first car built entirely under German engineering. BMW took over the brand in 1998 to reinvent the classic luxury experience from the ground up.

When BMW acquired the rights to Rolls-Royce, they had to start almost from scratch to design the Phantom VII. They built a new factory in Goodwood specifically for this project to maintain the brand’s heritage. The result was a vehicle that felt traditionally British but utilized sophisticated modern German technology. It successfully revitalized a historic nameplate that had been struggling for years.
