The Father of Electronic Television

While many credit Western inventors, the world's first all-electronic television was actually built by Kenjiro Takayanagi in Japan. He achieved this milestone in 1926 by projecting the character for 'katakana' onto a cathode ray tube.

Long before mass-market television existed, Takayanagi pushed the boundaries of visual technology in his laboratory. His successful prototype proved that images could be transmitted electronically rather than through bulky mechanical spinning disks. Beyond this breakthrough, he also played a vital role in developing early video tape recording technology. Today, he is rightfully remembered in Japan as the visionary who paved the way for the modern screens we watch every day.
