The Island Nation Far From Home

Equatorial Guinea's capital city is not even located on the mainland. It sits on Bioko, a volcanic island located much closer to Cameroon than to the rest of the nation's own territory.

While most countries keep their capital on their main landmass, Equatorial Guinea manages its affairs from an island separated by over 160 kilometers of ocean. Bioko is actually part of a chain of volcanic peaks that stretches toward the African mainland. The island is surprisingly large, serving as the fourth largest island on the entire continent. Its tallest point, Pico Basile, reaches nearly 10,000 feet into the clouds.
