Jeremy Bentham founded modern utilitarianism and requested that his body be preserved after death. You can still visit his skeleton today, which sits in a display case at University College London.

Bentham believed that his remains should serve a scientific and educational purpose rather than rotting away. He had his skeleton padded with straw and dressed in his actual clothes to create an iconic auto-icon. Though his real head was replaced by a wax model due to preservation issues, the original head was kept in storage for years. It remains one of the most unusual legacies in the history of philosophy.
