The Only Non-Royal Palace in Britain

Blenheim Palace is a massive country house, yet it holds the exclusive title of the only non-royal, non-episcopal residence in England to be called a palace. It was gifted to the first Duke of Marlborough as a reward for his military victory.

While most palaces in England are owned by royalty or church leaders, Blenheim was commissioned by the nation to honor a war hero. It remains the ancestral home of the Dukes of Marlborough today. Interestingly, this grand monument to military power was also the site where Sir Winston Churchill entered the world. Its sheer scale makes it one of the largest houses in the entire country.
