The Ocean Has Mysterious Unidentified Noises

Scientists have recorded strange, booming sounds from the deep ocean that remain unidentified. These mysterious signals are actually played back at high speeds because they occur at frequencies too low for human ears to hear.

The ocean is a loud place, but some sounds recorded by underwater microphones defy explanation. Researchers often speed these audio files up by at least 16 times to make them audible for human study. Because these noises exist in the infrasound range, they would sound like low, ghostly hums if they were slowed down. While some are blamed on shifting ice or shifting plates, others leave experts baffled.
