The Wasps That Control Other Insects

Parasitoid wasps are master infiltrators that use other insects as living incubators. They lay their eggs inside a host, ensuring their offspring have a constant food supply while eventually killing the host from the inside out.

Unlike typical parasites that want to keep their host alive, these wasps rely on a strategy that is intentionally lethal. They show incredible precision, with many species evolving to hunt only a specific type of beetle, butterfly, or spider. By injecting their eggs directly into the victim, the larvae grow within the host body until they are ready to emerge as adults. It is a grim but highly effective survival strategy that shapes entire ecosystems.
