Mating Through The Abdominal Wall

Some insects bypass the natural reproductive system entirely by piercing the female's abdomen. The male stabs directly into her body cavity to deliver sperm, which must then swim through her internal fluids to reach the eggs.

This aggressive reproductive strategy is known as traumatic insemination. Instead of using traditional anatomy, males force their way through the female’s protective outer shell. The female must then heal the resulting wounds while the sperm travels through her hemolymph to fertilize the eggs. It is a harsh biological reality that demonstrates just how strange evolution can be when faced with reproductive competition.
