The Barnacles That Hijack Their Hosts

While they look like simple lumps, these creatures are highly evolved relatives of the barnacles on rocky shores. The female spreads through the host like a fungal network, while the male effectively dissolves himself into the female to become a tiny sperm-producing organ. This process leaves the host biologically castrated, turning their entire life into a vehicle for the parasite. It is one of the most extreme examples of host manipulation in the natural world.
