The Frog That Breaks Its Own Bones

The Wolverine frog has a terrifying defense mechanism. When threatened, it intentionally snaps its own toe bones to pierce through its skin, creating sharp, claw-like weapons for combat.

This Central African amphibian does not grow claws in the traditional way. Instead, it uses bony nodules as anchors to push jagged bone fragments right through its skin to ward off predators. Once the danger passes, the frog heals its wounds and retracts the bones back into its feet. It is a gruesome but effective biological survival trick that mirrors the fictional character it is named after.
