Why We See Intent Everywhere

Humans have a deep-seated instinct to see purposeful agents behind random events. Whether it is a rustling bush or a thunderstorm, our brains are hardwired to assume someone or something is responsible.

This psychological trait evolved as a survival mechanism. It was safer for our ancestors to mistake the wind for a predator than to ignore a potential threat. Because we are so quick to assume intent, we often interpret natural phenomena as deliberate acts. This tendency is now considered a key reason why belief in supernatural forces and deities emerged throughout human history.
