Spains Secret Oasis Competition

Spains Secret Oasis Competition

Every May, residents in Cordoba open their private homes to the public for a massive courtyard decorating contest. These hidden, flower-filled sanctuaries are so unique they are now protected as World Heritage treasures.

During the festival, locals transform their traditional internal patios into vibrant displays of blooming pots and lush greenery. This century-old tradition started as a way to handle the intense southern Spanish heat by using architecture as a natural cooling system. Visitors can wander through these intimate, fragrant spaces completely for free. It is a rare chance to see how architectural history and neighborhood pride collide in the heart of Andalucia.
