The US Island That Drives On The Left

Despite being part of the United States, Saint Croix is the only place under American jurisdiction where people drive on the left side of the road.

This unique traffic rule is a remnant of the island’s colonial history, as most other Caribbean islands also drive on the left. The vehicles themselves are typically imported from the mainland US, meaning most cars have the steering wheel on the left side. It creates a surreal driving experience where you sit on the side closest to the shoulder while navigating oncoming traffic. It remains one of the most charmingly confusing quirks of this tropical territory.
