The Bell Tower That Forbidden Heights

Standing 81 meters tall, the Ivan the Great Bell Tower was once so important that a law prohibited any other structure in Moscow from being built taller. For centuries, this monument served as the absolute skyline limit for the entire city.

Completed in 1508, this tower was designed to serve three neighboring cathedrals that lacked their own belfries.
