Atmospheric satellites are essentially permanent drones that hover in the sky to act like orbital satellites. By staying in the upper atmosphere for months, they provide internet and observation services at a fraction of the cost of launching hardware into space.

These craft, also known as HAPS, use aerodynamic lift or buoyancy to stay stationary above a specific location.
