The Logic Trap of Surprise Tests

A prisoner told they will be hanged at a surprise time can logically prove it is impossible. By working backward, the prisoner concludes no day is possible, yet the execution remains a surprise when it finally occurs.

This paradox highlights a massive disconnect between logical deduction and reality. If the prisoner eliminates Friday because it would not be a surprise, then Thursday also fails the test, and eventually, every day is ruled out. However, when the executioner arrives on Wednesday, the prisoner is caught off guard anyway.
