Georges Perec wrote a 300-page mystery novel entirely without using the letter e. This feat is even more impressive considering e is the most common letter in both the French and English languages.

To complete this challenge, Perec had to completely reinvent his vocabulary and sentence structure. He was a member of a group dedicated to using strict constraints to spark creative breakthroughs. Writing a full-length book without the most frequent letter in the alphabet forced him to find ingenious alternatives. It remains one of the most famous examples of constrained writing in literary history.
