The Kingdom Born From A Great Invasion

When Timur the Great sacked Delhi in 1398, he accidentally triggered the birth of the Malwa Sultanate. Chaos in the capital allowed a local governor to seize control and establish a powerful, independent realm in central India.

The collapse of the Delhi Sultanate created a massive power vacuum across the region. Dilawar Khan, the governor of Malwa, cleverly realized that the central authority was permanently broken. He declared independence in 1401, turning the region into a thriving cultural hub for over 150 years. This event shows how a single foreign invasion can radically redraw the map and create entire new civilizations.
