The Rise and Fall of the World's Largest Hotel

Once the world's largest hotel, New York's historic Hotel Pennsylvania stood as a Midtown titan for over a century before being completely erased to make way for a modern skyscraper.

Opened in 1919 across from Penn Station, this architectural landmark defined an era of luxury travel. Despite its massive scale and cultural significance, preservation efforts failed to save it from the wrecking ball. The building was finally demolished in 2023 to be replaced by a contemporary office tower. Its disappearance marks the end of a grand chapter in Manhattan history.
