The name Bakerloo is actually a clever portmanteau blending two famous London locations. It was created by a newspaper reporter who fused Baker Street and Waterloo into one catchy, permanent identity.

When the line was originally proposed, it was simply called the Baker Street and Waterloo Railway. A journalist shortened it for a headline, and the catchy nickname proved more popular than the official title.
