A Church Under Construction Since 1882

The Sagrada Família has been under construction for over 140 years, taking longer to build than the Great Pyramid of Giza. Antoni Gaudi famously remarked that his client, God, was in no rush to see it finished.

Work on this architectural masterpiece began in 1882 and remains ongoing today. The project relies entirely on private donations and ticket sales, which helps explain its remarkably slow pace. Because Gaudi died with many of his plans incomplete, modern architects are still using evolving technology to interpret his complex vision. It stands as a testament to patience, with completion tentatively expected around the centenary of the architect's death.
