The Roman Soldier Who Became A Saint

The soldier who pierced Jesus with a spear during the crucifixion was later canonized as a saint. Known as Longinus, this once-anonymous figure famously converted to Christianity after witnessing the events on the cross.

The name Longinus does not appear in the canonical Bible; it first emerged centuries later in an apocryphal text.
