The Queen of Tropical Fruits

Despite its royal nickname, the mangosteen is not related to mangoes at all. This highly prized fruit actually belongs to the same botanical family as St. John's wort, a common flowering plant.

The mangosteen earned its regal reputation in Southeast Asia, where it is often referred to as the Queen of Fruits. While the name suggests a connection to the mango, they share no genetic ties. The fruit is famous for its thick, deep purple rind that protects delicate, sweet white segments inside. It remains a fascinating tropical delicacy that is remarkably difficult to cultivate outside of specific climates.
