Earths Mysterious Billion Year Stagnation

For a full billion years, Earth entered a bizarre state of suspended animation. During this time, tectonic plates barely moved, the climate remained frozen in place, and evolution slowed to a crawl.

Geologists call this interval the Boring Billion because so little changed across the entire planet. While life thrived before and after this period, it hit a deep rut during these middle ages. Everything from mountain building to genetic innovation seemed to grind to a halt. Scientists are still investigating why the planet stayed so eerily stable for such a vast stretch of time.
