The Secret Behind Sweet Paprika

The Secret Behind Sweet Paprika

Most sweet paprika is actually made from peppers with the seeds removed. By stripping away the internal parts, spice makers eliminate the bitter heat, leaving behind only the vibrant, fruity flesh.

While we often think of paprika as a simple ground spice, its flavor profile is carefully controlled through mechanical processing. To create the mild, sweet version, producers carefully deseed the peppers before grinding them into powder. Including the seeds and stalks would introduce a much sharper, hotter kick to the final product. This precision is why even high-quality paprika can range so drastically in heat despite looking identical.
