The Statue That Earned A Fiery Nickname

The Statue That Earned A Fiery Nickname

A massive 62-foot statue of Jesus once stood in Ohio, but locals nicknamed it Touchdown Jesus. This was because its raised arms made it look like a referee signaling a successful goal.

The statue was a famous landmark for travelers along Interstate 75 until a lightning strike destroyed it in 2010. The bolt ignited the foam and fiberglass structure, leaving nothing behind but a charred metal frame. It was eventually replaced by a new, fireproof version nicknamed Lux Mundi. This bizarre architectural history turned a simple religious monument into a genuine piece of pop culture folklore.
