Apple Created a Hybrid Animal Called the Dogcow

Inside Apple’s early software existed a strange mascot called Clarus the Dogcow. This pixelated hybrid was designed to demonstrate page layouts and famously made a sound called a Moof, which combined a moo and a woof.

During the development of the original Macintosh, Clarus became a cult icon within the engineering team. It was officially featured in Apple technical notes to show how printers handled different page orientations. The character grew into a symbol of the company's playful, surreal sense of humor. Even today, developers still spot hidden references to the dogcow in various operating system icons and Easter eggs.
