The Hidden History of Snacking

Snacking was once considered a sign of moral failing or gluttony. While we now eat between meals to stay energized, societies historically viewed the practice as a lazy habit for those lacking self-discipline.

Throughout much of history, humans ate strictly defined meals at set times of the day. Consuming food outside of those windows was often frowned upon by social elites and health experts alike. It took the rise of industrialization and packaged goods to shift our perception of eating into the casual, frequent habit we enjoy today. Nowadays, snacking is a multi-billion dollar global industry that fuels our busy modern lives.
