The Short Life of Manila Wrestling
The Manila Wrestling Federation was the Philippines premier professional wrestling promotion for over a decade. Despite building a loyal fanbase, this unique cultural movement suddenly ceased all operations in May 2024.
Founded in 2014, the organization served as a vital hub for local performers to showcase their athleticism and storytelling skills. It successfully blended traditional combat sports with Filipino theatrical flair to create a distinct identity. Although it underwent a major relaunch in 2018 to reach wider audiences, the promotion ultimately folded earlier this year. Its closure marks a significant loss for the independent sports entertainment scene in Southeast Asia.
